README NetGUI MobiQuo/GSyC Research Group Rey Juan Carlos University, Spain http://mobiquo.gsyc.es You can find the NetGUI/Netkit install files in this directory. INSTALL file describes how to install both packages. What's NetGUI? NetGUI is a GUI for Netkit. With NetGUI you can edit network diagrams, boot/shutdown emulated Linux hosts, switches and routers, and interact with them through terminals providing Linux shells. NetGUI is GNU/GPL libre/free software. What's Netkit? From http://www.netkit.org : Netkit is an environment for setting up and performing networking experiments at low cost and with little effort. It allows to "create" several virtual network devices (full-fledged routers, switches, computers, etc.) that can be easily interconnected in order to form a network on a single PC. Networking equipments are virtual but feature many of the characteristics of the real ones, including the configuration interface. Each virtual machine can be controlled through a terminal, using exactly the same GNU/Linux commands that you would use to configure real computers. Messages exchanged are the same that real machines would exchange, from the ink layer up to the application layer. Netkit is heavily based in User Mode Linux (http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/), greatly simplifying its operation for networking. MobiQuo/GSyC group http://mobiquo.gsyc.es
